Employee Perks at HS&S

The firm pays the fee for each part of the Uniform CPA Exam that is passed by employees while employed at HS&S and, for all certified employees, for their license to practice public accounting.  Other professional licenses/certifications will be paid for at the firm’s discretion.  Annual dues for the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants are paid by the firm for all full-time CPAs.  Registration fees for attendance at regular meetings are also paid by the firm.  Memberships for other professional, trade and civic organizations are considered on a case-by-case basis.

HS&S provides medical and dental plans through PacificSource (sponsored by the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants).  The insurance is available to the employee’s dependent(s) or domestic partner at the employee’s expense.  Employees covered under a spouse’s or domestic partner’s group plan can “opt out” of HS&S’s plan.  In that case, HS&S would pay to the employee an amount equal to 90% of the premium the firm would otherwise be paying. 

The firm also provides a flexible spending account for out-of-pocket medical and daycare expenses.  Employees may take advantage of our 401(k) plan to save for the future, and the firm contributes annually to a profit sharing plan in which employees are fully vested after six years.  Each employee is provided with a life insurance policy of $50,000 after six months of service and a long-term disability policy is available with no waiting period.  Coverage is 2/3 monthly earnings up to a maximum of $5,000 a month.

Parking at the office is free.  Incentive bonuses are paid to employees (excluding partners and senior managers) for client development and recruiting.

Other benefits of employment with HS&S include personal time off (PTO – amounts vary with staff level and length of service), and we also offer flexible working hours and compressed work-week schedules.  In addition, we have a “corporate casual” dress code, Monday through Friday, year-round.  During tax season, lunch is catered in each Saturday.

Accounting staff are provided with laptop computers that are equipped with remote network access, enabling employees to access the firm’s network resources from clients’ offices or from home.  In addition, the firm pays up to $25 per month for employees’ high-speed internet connection at home.

For employees at the level of manager and above, the firm pays up to $50 per month of cell phone expense.
